Jordan Motzkin, Founder, CEO
Jordan Motzkin is the Co-Founder and CEO of Big Box Farms, a NYC-based startup. The Company was started at the College of the Atlantic Sustainable Venture Incubator and seed funded through the National Science Foundation and US Department of Agriculture. Big Box Farms developed a breakthrough technology for the production of salad greens resulting in fresher, safer, and more nutritious produce. The company’s technology centers on producing its crops inside industrial warehouses that are located near food distribution facilities, allowing the company to bring sustainable local agriculture to densely populated areas.
Prior to founding Big Box Farms, Jordan Motzkin co-founded a partnership in the ESCO and energy efficiency field helping businesses, non-profits, and municipalities to develop strategies to reduce energy consumption and lower costs. Mr. Motzkin has also worked as a development strategist for Manhattan-based firm Phb Catalyst Group, Inc. and has led a $120 million redevelopment study with multi-discipline team including financial analysts, LEED professionals, engineers, and architects.
In 2010 he was awarded the first Sustainable Venture Innovation award from the College of the Atlantic for his work on Big Box Farms and was cited by the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors for his work with the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce in developing a campaign that resulted in the elimination of millions of pounds of CO2 emissions.
Jordan has lectured on the intersection of entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainability at a variety of venues including Columbia University and the U.S. Japan Business Council. He has been interviewed and his work has been featured in Forbes, CNN Money, Mashable, CBS Television, Fox Business, and Net Impacts Principled Leader.
Chuck Weiss, Chairman
Chuck Weiss has an extensive career in corporate management and management consulting. Mr. Weiss was responsible for top line revenue as a Vice President of a $700 million division of RJR/Nabisco; previously Mr. Weiss held senior management roles at several other Fortune 500 multinational corporations.
Mr. Weiss’ consulting experience includes client work with Nabisco Foods, Dow Chemical, General Foods, Colgate-Palmolive, Pillsbury, Hershey Foods, Ocean Spray, Scott Paper, Kraft Foods, Sargento Cheese, International Multi Foods, Pepperidge Farms, Esselte, Unilever, Warner-Lambert, Sterling Drug, AT&T, Brown-Forman, Quaker Oats, General Mills, The Tribune Company, Time Inc., The New York Times, The Limited, Sharp Electronics, General Electric, Elizabeth Arden, Corporate Express, Land O’Lakes, House of Seagram’s, Reynolds Metals, Sara Lee, and Reckitt & Coleman.
Mr. Weiss helped build Weston Group into a premier business strategy consulting firm. After selling Weston Group to Computer Sciences Corporation, Mr. Weiss was Senior Partner & Executive-in-Charge of the Growth Strategy Practice and Executive-in-Charge of Global Client Relationships. Prior to his experience with Weston and CSC, Mr. Weiss held the role of VP, Business Unit Management with RJR/Nabisco; Corporate Director, New Business Development with Alberto-Culver; Richardson-Vicks, Inc.
